Meet the Artist: Tyler Guinn

Artist Tyler Guinn was raised in an environment where creativity was greatly encouraged and modeled by a career artist mother. While the outlet of expression has varied over the years, he’s always felt capable of visually articulating and executing on an idea. Tyler’s background in marketing, design and entrepreneurship influences the way he now runs his art practice. The cross-medium principles and creative processes from these experiences have become engrained into his lifestyle.

When it comes to abstract expressionism, Tyler is driven by the desire to create objects and experiences which shift perspective and lift the soul. He believes in co-authoring the artwork by linking his inspiration with the viewer's interpretation. While there is intentional vagueness in each piece, leaving room for response, the work is collectively a visual response to positive messages of truth.

Tyler’s process and use of materials often feels more akin to building an object than painting a picture. He prefers to work on deep panels, which he stretches himself. Then there is a vigorous and worshipful experimentation which takes place, as unprimed surfaces become richly distressed by a variety of materials and ingredients. Depth is accomplished in each piece through the evocative texture, balanced color fields, and a strong narrative by means of mark making. The resulting product has a raw, sculptural quality. The goal is for each piece to anchor the space it inhabits with positivity, acting as a grounding design element.

The greatest joys in Tyler’s life are his faith and his family. Being a husband and father goes hand-in-hand with his role as a painter — his family has made fine art a part of their lifestyle, and they consider it a humbling experience every time a collector makes his artwork part of their space. Tyler feels that it links their stories and families in a very special way. In a field that can be isolating in many facets, it is his family's support which powers the dream.

For this particular collection, Tyler wanted to communicate empathy and vulnerability in the work. There is a refined grittiness and aggregation of earthy tones in each piece that feels somehow relatable. Aesthetically, the work appears to be compatible with current trends in design, but equally timeless and artifactual. You can shop the full collection on our website!
